Somerton Village Hall, is a new Lottery Funded building that replaces an existing dilapidated structure on a very tight site in rural Oxfordshire. The new building provides an invaluable and flexible community resource.
The building follows a simple L-shaped floor plan in response to the very tight site. The natural orientation permits full height glazing to both ends of the main hall to maximise natural daylighting and ventilation.
The building is clad in Oak weatherboarding set between vertical Oak posts, which support the roof structure. The detailing is meticulous and structurally expressive.
