Holly Cottage is set within a Cotswold village, overlooking the green. The house, which was formerly 2 cottages had previously been extended with an incongruous flat roof structure to the rear, which was wholly inconsistent with the proportion and detail of the existing building fabric.

Our brief was to form a single storey extension to the rear to accommodate a larger family kitchen and playroom, which would bring order to the rear elevation.

The extension runs to the full width of the house and consists of 2 contrasting elements. The new playroom is a simple rendered structure, whilst the kitchen projects forward and is clad in Oak weatherboarding with a sliding/folding screen and corner window to open up the space to the cottage garden. The extension is over-sailed with a projecting flat roof to offer shelter and solar shading.
