The site of the proposed new house is within the garden of the client’s current property, The Almshouses, which is not listed but is within the Conservation Area. The aim is to create a contemporary home for their remaining retirement, yet be sympathetic to the local environment.

The new house will be simple in form, principally constructed in brick with single storey additions clad in naturally weathered timber and flat top lead projecting dormers at first floor. The entrance elevation is dominated by gables to mimic the surrounding buildings. To the rear, the house opens up to the garden with large sliding doors onto a raised terrace. This private space is sheltered by a large overhanging roof and gives views to the open countryside.

The proposals are awaiting a planning decision with anticipated construction starting in 2011.
